When Apple first launch Vision Pro, the headset provided no way to reset the device without first unlocking it with a passcode. That left those who did forget their passcode unable to access the device again unless they took it to an Apple Store or sent it back to Apple.

Like Apple's iOS devices, the incorrect passcode cannot be entered too many times or the Vision Pro will be disabled, with a waiting period before a passcode can be entered again.

Removing the passcode on Vision Pro requires resetting and erasing all content on the headset. However, when Vision Pro originally launched, Apple provided no way to access the reset mode via any combination of button presses. Erasing Vision Pro could only be done through the Settings app, and getting access to any app, of course, requires the passcode.

Fortunately, Apple quickly recognized the inconvenience that this situation imposed on users, and in the same month of the device's launch it released a visionOS 1.0.3 update that includes an option to reset the headset if the passcode is forgotten.

After the update is installed via Settings ➝ General ➝ Software Update, if a passcode is rejected a certain number of times, users will get an option to erase the Vision Pro. Note that you need to be connected to a power source or have enough battery charge when updating Vision Pro (if your battery is too depleted, visionOS will tell you.) Once you've updated to visionOS 1.0.3 or later, here's what you need to do.

  1. Tap the "Forgot Passcode?" button that appears after four incorrect passcode attempts.
  2. Tap Start Apple Vision Pro Reset.
  3. If prompted, choose a Wi-Fi network to connect to and enter the password.
  4. Enter your Apple ID password to sign out of your account.
  5. Tap Erase Apple Vision Pro to confirm, then take off your Apple Vision Pro.

Once the erase procedure is complete, your Vision Pro will restart and show the Apple logo on the visor. Put the headset back on and follow the onscreen instructions to begin setting up visionOS.
